Back Cover

Privacy Policy

Last updated 9 October 2026

Back Cover is a party guessing game made by Canopus Labs Ltd. In short: Back Cover collects no data. There is no account, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking, and Back Cover has no servers of its own. Nothing you make, play or record in the app is sent to us.

What stays on your iPhone

  • Your own decks are stored on your iPhone, inside the app, and in your iPhone’s own backups if you make them. Deleting the app deletes them.
  • Your settings (your teams, round length, sounds, tilt) and which cards each deck has shown lately are stored in the app’s own preferences on your iPhone.
  • Scores last only as long as the game you’re playing.

Camera, microphone and Photos

Back Cover uses the camera and microphone only in book mode on iPhone Duo, and only while a round is being played. The back camera films your team giving clues for a reaction reel, and while it films, iPhone Duo can show the word on its outer display. Before the round starts, the inside of the iPhone shows what the back camera sees, and while it records, a recording light shows on both displays. After each round you choose: save the reel to your photo library, or discard it. Back Cover asks only for permission to add to your photo library: it cannot see or read it. Reels are never sent anywhere else. If your library syncs with iCloud Photos, that is handled by Apple under Apple’s terms. On every other iPhone, and on iPhone Duo when it’s folded, Back Cover never uses the camera or microphone.

Motion

To tell a nod from a tilt, Back Cover reads the iPhone’s motion sensors while a round is being played. The readings are used there and then, on your iPhone, and are not stored or sent anywhere.

Purchases

All Decks is sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment, and we receive no personal or payment details. The app checks your purchase with Apple’s StoreKit on your iPhone. Apple’s privacy policy applies to purchases.

Your choices

  • You can turn camera, microphone or Photos access off at any time in your iPhone’s Settings › Apps › Back Cover. Without the camera, book mode plays on the forehead instead; without the microphone, reels are silent.
  • In Back Cover’s own Settings, turn off Save Reaction Reels to keep a reel only when you tap Save to Photos.

Keeping and deleting

Your decks and settings stay on your iPhone until you delete them in the app, or delete the app. A reel you discard is deleted at once. A reel you keep is in your photo library, where you can delete it like any video. We hold no data about you, so there is nothing for us to delete or hand over.

Children

Back Cover is a game for all ages, with a deck made for children. It collects no data from anyone, children included.
