Bifolio: Private Journal

A journal that keeps to itself

Bifolio is a quiet, private journal for iPhone, somewhere to write just for yourself. Every entry is encrypted on the phone before it reaches your iCloud. It needs no account, keeps no score, and opens out into two pages on iPhone Duo.

Today’s page in Bifolio on an iPhone, Friday 23 October 2026: an entry from 7:52 in Greenwich, 14°C and partly cloudy, a smile picked for the mood, a short paragraph about an early walk, and a photo of a white cottage beside a canal lock.
  • Encrypted where you write

Every word, photo, drawing, video and recording is encrypted on the iPhone itself, then synced through your own iCloud. Face ID, Touch ID or a separate passcode keeps the journal shut.

  • Unfolded on iPhone Duo

Bifolio is named after a sheet folded once, like iPhone Duo. Closed, it’s a notebook for a quick line; open, the calendar sits opposite the day’s page, and Read as Book sets past days out as facing pages.

  • Exported whenever you like

Save a day, a journal or the whole shelf to PDF, or to Markdown with your photos and recordings. Day One and Apple Journal entries can come in, too. Exports are unencrypted, so keep them private.

Questions

Where is my journal stored?
On your iPhone, and in your own iCloud if you use it, so your other devices have it too. Each entry is encrypted on the phone first, with its keys in iCloud Keychain. Bifolio has no server of its own and no tracking, so nothing you write reaches us.
What does Bifolio cost?
Nothing. Bifolio is free: no subscription, nothing to buy inside the app and no ads. It doesn’t ration your photos or your words, either.
Does Bifolio need an iPhone Duo?
No. Every iPhone with iOS 27.1 or later can run it. An open iPhone Duo gives it two pages instead of one; the encryption, the lock and the shelf of journals are the same on all of them.
