Fold & Play: Backgammon
Three classic board games, with no ads
Backgammon, chess and draughts (checkers) come in one set, styled like a lacquered folding games case. For two, lay your iPhone flat between you and play face to face. On your own, play the computer at three strengths, with no internet needed.
- iPhone
- iOS 26 or later
- Optimised for iPhone Duo
- Draughts free; backgammon and chess with the Full Set
Fold & Play’s menus and rules are in English.

Play against the computer, easy to hard
Choose Easy, Medium or Hard, and the side you’d like to play. The computer runs on your iPhone itself, so you can play all three games with no internet, on a plane or a train.

Every game kept just as you left it
The first screen lays out all three games as small boards, each showing its game in progress. Each one saves as you play, so you can put it down at any point and pick it up later.

See every move before you make it
Pick up a piece and the board marks everywhere it can go. Only legal moves are allowed, and if you slip, the undo button on your side of the table takes the move back.

Proper rules, explained when you need them
Backgammon has the bar, bearing off and gammons; chess has castling, en passant, promotion and stalemate; draughts has compulsory captures and crowned kings. Look up any rule mid-game, in plain words.
On iPhone Duo, the fold is the hinge
Open iPhone Duo and lay it flat between two players: the fold becomes the board’s hinge. Backgammon’s bar lies on the crease, the chessboard divides on a grid line so no square is cut, and nothing you tap ever sits on the fold.

Draughts is free, and one purchase adds the rest
Draughts (checkers) is free to play, as often as you like. The Full Set adds backgammon and chess in a single in-app purchase: paid once, yours for good, and shared with your family through Family Sharing. There’s no subscription.

Questions
- Can two people play backgammon on one iPhone?
- Yes. In Fold & Play, choose Two players, keep Face to face on and lay your iPhone flat between you. The far player’s name, buttons, dice and chess pieces turn round to face them, so each of you plays from your own side. Backgammon comes with the Full Set; draughts (checkers) is free.
- Is there a backgammon app without ads?
- Yes. Fold & Play is backgammon, chess and draughts (checkers) for iPhone with no ads at all: no banners, and nothing to watch between games. It needs no account either. Backgammon and chess come with the Full Set, a one-time in-app purchase with no subscription; draughts is free.
- Can I play backgammon offline against the computer?
- Yes. Fold & Play’s computer opponent runs on your iPhone itself, so you can play backgammon (tavla in Turkish) anywhere, with no internet connection. Choose Easy, Medium or Hard, and the side you’d like to take. Backgammon comes with the Full Set, a one-time in-app purchase.
- Can I play chess offline on iPhone?
- Yes. Fold & Play plays chess with no connection, against the computer at Easy, Medium or Hard, or a friend face to face on one iPhone. It keeps the full rules: castling, en passant, promotion, and draws by stalemate, repetition and the fifty-move rule. Chess comes with the Full Set.
- Is there a free checkers app with no ads?
- Yes. In Fold & Play, draughts (the British name for checkers) is free to play and has no ads. Play a friend face to face on one iPhone, or the computer at three strengths. It’s English draughts on an 8×8 board, with forced jumps and crowned kings.
- Do I need iPhone Duo to play face to face?
- No. Face to face works on any iPhone with iOS 26 or later: lay it flat between you, and the far side of the table turns to face its player. On iPhone Duo, opened flat, the fold also becomes the board’s hinge, with nothing you tap on the crease.
